European U19 Individual Championships 2019

First ever European titles for Czech republic and Poland in the European U19 Individual Championships 2019 hosted in Prague.

The home crowd in Prague were delighted when local favourite and no. 1 seed Viktor Byrtus confirmed his position of the best junior player in Europe by beating Swiss second seed Yannick Wilhelmi in the final of U19 European Junior Championships. Viktor dominated the first game but Yannick stepped up his game and second and third game were very close. Viktor got to 10/7 in the third and had three matchballs but Yannick saved all three of them. He even got his chance to win the game when he got to 11/10 up but Viktor won the next three points to claim his title.

The girl's final was played between two players who beat top seeds in the semi finals. Katie Maliff from England started the final very well but Karina Tyma managed to come back to win the close first game and was ahead for most of the rest of the match. Her dropshots were working really well on the glass court and she deservedly became (same as Viktor) the first European champion from her country.

Bronze medal was won by Toufik Mekhalfi from France who continued his run and beat Sam Buckley from Ireland, third opponent who was seeded higher than him. The girl's 3rd place match featured both top seeds, and Elise Lazarus got the better of her English teammate Alice Green.
