Gerrits and Zrazhevska take top titles at Hasta La Vista

Dutchman Samuel Gerrits and Poland's Sofiia Zrazhevska were crowned Under-19 winners at last weekend's Polish Junior Open at Hasta La Vista in Wroclaw.

Top seed Gerrits, currently fifth in the European Squash Federation's U19 rankings, retained his title courtesy of a 11-7, 11-5, 3-11, 11-9 victory over Poland's home favourite Leon Krysiak in the final.

Gerrits had won last year's Polish Junior Open title after a shock win over World Junior champion Rowan Damming.

The youngster from The Hague won all his matches in straight games in the run-up to Sunday's final before encountering a tougher test from the Warsaw-based second seed.

In the girls' U19 final, Sofiia Zrazhevska from Warsaw followed up her recent victory at the Nordic Junior Open by beating Germany's top seed Maya Weishar in a marathon final.

Zrazhevska, who beat third seed Renske Huntelaar in straight games in the semi-finals, joined the PSA Tour this season and finished 11th in the European Individual Championship in August.

She added another trophy to her collection in Wroclaw with a 11-8, 12-10, 6-11, 3-11, 9-11 victory over Weishar, who had beaten England's Olivia Owens in the semi-finals.

In the Under-17 categories, Czech Republic's Vojtech Martinovsky and Ukraine's Anastasiia Krykun were the victors. France and England took the boys' and girls' honours in the U15s courtesy of Maxence Imbert and British champion Ameerah Ismail respectively. There was more Czech success in the U13s with Max Pelikan the boys' winner and Anna Jukubiec pleasing the home crowd with a Polish victory in the girls' final.
