Bernet and Zrazhevska tumble in European U19 shocks
Mar242024
After an opening day largely free of shocks, day two at the European U19 Individual Championships saw seeds scatter in both boys' and girls' draws.
Although top seeds Jonah Bryant of England and Laurent Baltayan of France had a comfortable run through to the semi-finals, there were spectacular upsets elsewhere at AreoSquash Baneasa in Bucharest, Romania.
Re-live all the action from day two here:
In the boys, after a gruelling 22-20 set the previous day, France's Amir Khaled-Jousselin [9/12] managed to defeat Guido Lindner [5/6] of Netherlands in three sets in the morning session, only to be stopped by his compatriot Melvil Scianimanico [3/4] in the quarters.
But the big news came in the the quarter-finals with Abdallah Eissa [7/8] of England managing to upset the second seed David Bernet of Switzerland in four sets. He will go on to face Scianimanico in the semis.
In the girls' draw, we've seen two upsets, with Ona Blasco [13/16] of Spain overcoming Sofiia Zrazhevska [3/4] of Poland in the morning session, only to be stopped by another challenger - Karolina Sramkova [9/12] of the Czech Republic, who defeated Renske Huntelaar [5/6] of Netherlands in the previous round to reach the semi-finals.
