Romania make history at European Team Div 3 Champs

Romania's men earned promotion for the first time ever after the hosts reached the final at the 2024 ESF European Teams Division 3 Squash Championships in Bucharest.

The home team raised the roof with a 3-1 victory over Croatia in a tense semi-final to reach their first ever Division 3 final - having finished last on the previous occasion the championships was held in Bucharest in 2016.

Meanwhile, Liechtenstein and Italy battled it out in the other semi-final match. With a very young team of players who were in Bucharest only last month in the European Juniors Championship, Italy managed to edge Liechtenstein 3-1.

In the women's event, after producing a surprising victory against Austria in the quarter-finals, with Anastasiia Krykun managing to break a long series of losses against Kristina Begeba, Ukraine also managed to upset Italy in the semi-finals.

In the second game, Milena Velychko edged Monica Menegozzi in a big five-set match, winning 11-9 in the decider. At the same time, Ireland reached the finals after a commanding win 2-0 over Sweden, as they showed really great form throughout the tournament so far.
